David Fotland's The Many Faces of Go turned in a sterling 7-0 record to claim the 21st Century Championship Cup and its US$500 prize. Go4++, last year's champion, took second place with a strong 6-1 performance. The top three finishers were rounded out by Ken Chen and his Go Intellect. A full list of entrants, with program descriptions is here.
The competition was held in conjunction with the Third International Conference on Computers and Games, sponsored by the Computing Science Department of the University of Alberta, which generously arranged for facilities and volunteer operators, including Ian Moon, Akihiro Kishimoto, and Adi Botea. Prof. Takenobu Takizawa of the Japan Computer Shogi Association kindly managed tournament pairings.
